How to Cook Kadappa

1. Cook the Dal and Potato

Add the Moong Dal and Potato to a pressure cooker. Pour in enough water to completely cover them, then cook until they are soft and well-boiled.

2. Prepare the Masala

Before you begin cooking, prepare the masala by grinding the following ingredients together without adding water:

  • Grated Coconut – as mentioned in the ingredients

  • Green Chilli – 5 Nos.

  • Fennel Seeds – as mentioned in the ingredients

  • Garlic – as mentioned in the ingredients

  • Cloves (Spice) – 1 No.

  • Cinnamon Stick – 1 No.

Grind everything into a smooth and keep it aside.

3. Prepare the Tempering

Place a deep frying pan on the stove and add the required amount of oil.

Once the oil is hot, add:

  • Mustard Seeds

  • Cinnamon Stick – 1 No.

  • Cloves – 1 No.

  • Bay Leaf

Allow the spices to splutter and release their aroma.

4. Cook the Onion and Tomato

Add the finely chopped Onion and Tomato to the pan. Sauté well until they become soft and cooked.

5. Add the Masala

Add the prepared masala to the pan and cook well, stirring continuously until the raw aroma disappears and the masala is nicely cooked.

6. Add the Cooked Dal and Potato

Add the boiled Potato and Moong Dal to the pan. Mix everything well.

Add the required amount of the cooking water to achieve your preferred consistency.

7. Simmer and Finish

Keep stirring occasionally and allow the Kadappa to cook until all the ingredients are well combined and the gravy reaches a smooth, creamy consistency.

Finally, garnish with freshly chopped Coriander Leaves.
